Editorial Director - Technology

We are seeking an Editorial Director/ Group Editor for the critically acclaimed and the expert buying advice brand Expert Reviews.

What will you be doing?

The big picture

  • You are the lynchpin of the site ensuring we meet our traffic targets, that the audience we deliver is right for our commercial team, and that the quality of the output meets the standards our target audience demands.
  • You set the editorial direction of the sites, based on each site’s commercial model. Working in collaboration with the audience development, you then implement the right content strategy.
  • You are responsible for working closely with the commercial team to identify opportunities, and supporting them with content-led pitches and proposals.
  • You are responsible, in conjunction with the head of digital, technology division, and the partnerships manager, for developing affiliate and other ecommerce revenue on the site.
  • You will always be looking for new trends in digital publishing and seeking ways to take advantage.


  • Commission internal and freelance staff to maximise traffic while keeping target audiences in mind.
  • Ensure key stories are updated on regular basis, with guidance from Audience Development.
  • Set tone and standard for website through your own writing.
  • Contribute news, features and reviews in your specialist areas.
  • Edit news, features, and reviews as required.

Delivering traffic and audience

  • Liaise with Audience Development team to ensure content is targeted at specific, high-volume search keywords and that existing, high-performing stories are regularly updated
  • Seek out and commission or create articles designed to increase ecommerce revenue
  • Build audience on social media channels
  • Deliver audience targets monthly, agreed with the head of digital, technology division.
  • Liaise with other Dennis editors to cross-link and boost traffic where appropriate


  • Manage the team, ensuring they maintain high standards of conduct, timeliness, creativity and work
  • Develop the whole team’s skills, and conduct annual performance reviews as well as more regular catch-ups to ensure development plans are on track
  • Develop individual KPIs for each member of the team, in agreement with the head of digital, technology division.
  • Ensure that all team members are implementing the guidelines around affiliate placements as provided by Head of Partnerships, incorporating this into their objectives as appropriate.


  • Work closely with ads team to ensure we deliver right audience around right content.
  • Conceive and deliver commercial packages, both proactively and in response to briefs.
  • Work closely with the partnerships manager to identify opportunities to develop affiliate revenue
  • Working with audience development, actively develop new types of content/content areas to drive affiliate revenue across the site(s) eg. deals hub whilst protecting the integrity of the editorial output.
  • Explore other means of driving uptake of deals and ‘shoppable content’ eg. featuring in newsletters, linking from related content.

Industry profile & events

  • Be the face of on all media, as well as at industry events
  • Host events, both editorial and commercial, as required
