Head of Data

We’re looking for a Head of Data to act as the Dennis Data Protection Officer and monitor changes in data protection regulatory requirements and recommend updates to policies, technologies, processes and procedures.

What will you be doing?

  • Build strong relationships with senior managers across all areas of the business, including Technology, Marketing, Editorial, Sales, HR and Finance to understand and recommend how departments handle data so that appropriate processes are implemented, privacy and security controls are followed and retention timeframes are adhered to in order to fully protect the data and comply with regulations.
  • Design and deliver data protection training to staff to ensure that obligations are understood and procedures are followed.
  • Recommend and oversee measures to address any identified gaps in data protection and security.
  • Act as the company’s Data Protection Officer, monitor changes in data protection regulatory requirements and recommend updates to policies, technologies, processes, procedures.
  • Assist in developing and implementing a project plan to ensure the company is GDPR compliant before May 2018.
  • Advise senior leadership, including the board, on potential privacy and data governance risks and impacts, making recommendations to manage any risks.
  • Process, coordinate and respond to data protection notifications, data access requests and requests for information under the Privacy Policy.
  • Liaise with department heads in assessing whether new suppliers have appropriate systems in place to protect any data transferred to them and handled by them.
  • Monitor that any external data processors maintain compliance with our requirements.
  • Undertake a rolling programme of data protection audits and privacy impact assessments, producing reports and making recommendations for improvements.
  • Ensure all necessary filings and registrations are in place, and that appropriate records of processing activities are kept.
  • Line management of the Data Protection Executive, BI Manager and Data Analyst.

Who are we looking for?

  • Knowledge/experience of data protection laws and an ability to interpret them, in particular an in-depth understanding of the GDPR
  • Outstanding analytical and presentation skills, with experience of delivering board level reporting
  • Proven ability to work well under pressure and handle and prioritise multiple projects and initiatives at same time
  • Excellent verbal and written communication, with the confidence to build and manage relationships with senior level management
  • Proven ability to act independently with excellent decision making skills
  • Working knowledge of IT network architecture; data transfer protocols and storage; and IT security protocols.
  • A solid understanding of digital marketing and advertising technologies
  • Ability to develop policies and draft detailed documentation.
  • Proactive and a good influencer with a flexible and adaptable approach.
