Software Engineer

We’re now looking for a Software Engineer to join our digital team, who must have an impressive track record of building and implementing websites and API’s in a commercial environment.

 

Your opportunity

You’ll have an immediate and positive impact on our greenfield projects and on our Drupal Distribution, which powers our growing brand portfolio, to develop and integrate front and back-end functionality using open source technologies.

You’ll be working across market-leading brands including: Alphr.com, BuyaCar.co.uk, AutoExpress.co.uk, Evo.co.uk, TheWeek.co.uk, mental_floss.co.uk, Carbuyer.co.uk, CloudPro.co.uk, ExpertReviews.co.uk, and DenOfGeek.com.

This is an exceptional opportunity to contribute to the exciting projects managed by the Dennis engineering team, and we’ll give you the skills you need to develop enterprise level cloud-hosted applications, work on migrations from Drupal 7 to Drupal 8, and give back to the Drupal ecosystem.

 

Why you?

Your inquisitive approach and technical discipline will allow you to effectively troubleshoot and identify solutions to complex problems, efficiently completing tasks on your own as well as collaborating positively across your team.

You’ll have acquired deep knowledge of front-to-back-end performance best practices, and have specific experience in:

  • Drupal 7/8 (Module development, Theming)
  • RESTful web services (JSON, XML)
  • PHP 7.x (object-oriented methodologies) and MySQL 5.x
  • Writing unit test in PHPUnit
  • Utilizing Memcache and Varnish
  • OO JavaScript / AJAX (jQuery/YUI)
  • XHTML; CSS; web standard
  • Elasticsearch and Solr / Sphinx/other faceted search system
  • Distributed VCS (Mercurial, Git)
  • Agile/Scrum; Test-Driven Development (TDD); Behavior Driven Development (BDD)

Ideally we’d also like you to have a strong working knowledge of Symfony components, be familiar with Linux server administration, container management services such as Kubernetes and Amazon ECS and task management tools including Jira, FogBugz as well as wikis and other continuous integration and DevOps tools.
